Bolstered Security & Protection

Install and configure security plugins to help thwart hacker attempts, bolstering defenses against common WordPress attacks, such as:

  • Brute Force Protection
  • Hide Login & Admin; change the URL of your login area and admin area so attackers won’t know where to look.
  • Detect and block numerous attacks to your filesystem and database
  • Lock Out Bad Users
  • 404 Detection
  • Away Mode
  • Implement Google reCAPTCHA to login page and comment forms; Protect your site from bots by verifying that the person submitting comments or logging in is indeed human.
  • Various additional security protections

Install, configure, and schedule bi-weekly off-site backups of your entire website. Your backups will be stored in a secure, off-site location (Amazon S3), so in the case your hosting company goes “belly up”, you’ll have a recent copy of your website that you could migrate to any other hosting location of your choosing. If your website is compromised, it can be quickly restored from your most recent backup.

WordPress Major Core Updates

Your website will be periodically upgraded to the latest WordPress core releases. These are intermittent maintenance and security updates, typically increasing security and patching vulnerabilities or bugs found in the previous WordPress release. When WordPress releases a major core update (typically every quarter), the upgrade process may be performed “manually”, with extra care taken to ensure that the upgrade has completed successfully with no negative impact on the front or back-end functionality of your website. This monitored process typically involves creating the backup, then the core upgrade is performed, then numerous checks are made to see how the upgrade affected your site. If the upgrade results in any undesired functionality, the backup may be restored – and further assessments will be made.

Plugin Updates

WordPress plugins will be updated on a regular basis, which is important to maintaining the stability and security of your website. Note, some non-free, “paid” plugins may incur additional upgrade / renewal costs, depending on the plugin terms.

WordPress plugins are created by multiple authors, and are consistently updated to newer versions to comply with the latest version of WordPress, or to address security issues and bugs.

It is not guaranteed that plugin updates will not break the website, nor that plugins will continue to function if not updated. For this reason, having a trained web specialist on hand to monitor the website is necessary to update plugins, rollback plugins, replace plugins or even adjust the theme to continue optimal performance.
